10 executives to watch in New York City in 2022

As New York City rings in another new year, there’s a new cast of city and state leaders who will be working to guide the Big Apple out of the pandemic: Mayor Eric Adams, who took office Jan. 1; Gov. Kathy Hochul, who is seeking re-election this fall after taking office in August; and Adrienne Adams, who is expected to become speaker of the most diverse City Council in the city’s history.

Here at the New York Business Journal, we will be paying attention to the people in the private sector who are shaping the city’s landscape, with a keen focus on commercial real estate and economic development. These individuals are focused on leasing office space, developing laboratories, reimagining transit hubs and thinking differently about the workplaces of the future.

Here’s a look at 10 of the executives we’ll be watching in 2022:

Dov Hertz, president at DH Property Holdings LLC

Industrial property developer DH Property Holdings LLC is one of the many companies competing in among the hottest sectors of commercial real estate in the city right now. Company President Dov Hertz started the business in 2016 after spending more than 13 years as an executive at Extell Development Co.

The developer has been working on several multistory warehouses in New York City, including:

  • 640 Columbia St. in Red Hook, Brooklyn, a three-story, 336,500-square-foot warehouse in partnership with Goldman Sachs Asset Management. Amazon.com Inc. leased this property.
  • 55 Bay St. in Red Hook, Brooklyn, an 83,000-square-foot warehouse that Amazon also leases.
  • Sunset Industrial Park in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, an 18-acre property with 400,000 square feet of space across 27 buildings being developed in partnership with Bridge Development Partners and Banner Oak Capital Partners.

Hertz has said DH Property Holdings expects to expand its footprint in 2022. It’s working on developing land in Philadelphia and has been looking at Boston. He said he sees more opportunity in New York, too.
